Where we refer to “Sterling Mortgage Centre”, “we” or “us” in this document we are referring to the following companies in the Sterling Mortgage Centre group and other selected third parties:

We will collect, use and are responsible for certain personal information about you. When we do so we are regulated under the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR“) which applies across the European Union (including in the United Kingdom) and under any local legislation which implements or supplements the GDPR (including, in the UK, the Data Protection Act 2018) and we are responsible as “controller” of that personal information for the purposes of those laws.

Information we hold about you

From time to time we may hold information about you. This information may come from a number of different sources including credit reference and fraud prevention agencies; information you have supplied to us or which is published by you or about you; third parties such as professionals, bankers, brokers, valuers and agents with whom you may have had a business relationship.

What we may do with your information

We will use, analyse and assess your information for the following purposes:

  1. Introduce you to a range of product and service providers in order to meet your requirements
  2. considering any applications made by you for, and helping us to make, credit related decisions about you and/or your business;
  3. financial risk assessment, preventing money laundering, fraud or other wrongdoing;
  4. exchanging information with credit reference agencies;
  5. making payments to you and/or your business;
  6. recovering monies;
  7. training, product and statistical analysis and development of new products;
  8. protecting our interests (including the provision of the information to third parties retained by us for them to conduct their services for us).

In obtaining or storing information about you we may:

  1. store and process information about you including on our computers and in any other way;
  2. search your record at a credit reference or fraud prevention agency of our choice. Details of our searches may be kept by such agency and may be seen by other organisations that make searches with the agency;
  3. monitor and/or record telephone conversations with you for training and/or security purposes;
  4. seek and record any further information that we may require from any source, including banks, for any of the purposes set out above;
  5. transfer such of the information that we may have to our financiers; to associates or persons acting on our behalf; to guarantors or indemnifiers and to businesses providing similar services to those of Sterling Mortgage Centre, all of whom may use such information for any of the purposes set out herein (including transfer within their group of companies). We shall, as far as we are able but without guarantee, seek to ensure that such financiers will always keep control of the information within the terms of this notice.

Some parties to whom we may transfer information, or from whom we may obtain information about you, may be outside the European Economic Area where the level of data protection may not be equivalent to that in the United Kingdom. In any such transfer or receipt of information we will seek to ensure control of the information within the terms of this notice.

You may obtain details of the credit reference agencies and other third parties from whom we obtain, and to whom we may give information about you, by contacting our data controller, Martin Byrne. You have a legal right to these details and can also obtain a copy of the information we may hold about them by writing to Martin Byrne at the address shown at the bottom of this Notice.

Under the GDPR you have a number of important rights which you can exercise, free of charge. In summary, those include rights to:

  1. object, in certain circumstances, to how we use your personal information. If you wish to exercise this right, please contact our DPO, providing details of your objection;
  2. request access to a copy of your personal information which we hold, along with details of what personal information we use, why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it for and whether it has been used for any automated decision making. You can make a request for access free of charge by contacting our DPO. Please make all requests for access in writing, and provide us with evidence of your identity;
  3. ask us to correct inaccuracies, to complete any incomplete personal information, to delete or restrict personal information or to ask for some of your personal information to be provided to someone else;
  4. withdraw your consent (if you have given us your consent to use your personal information) and update your marketing preferences by contacting us directly on 0800 919592;
  5. ask us to delete your personal information where it is no longer necessary for us to use it, where you have withdrawn consent, or where we have no lawful basis for keeping it;
  6. ask us to provide you or a third party with some of the personal information that we hold about you in a structured, commonly used, electronic form, so it can be easily transferred; and
  7. ask us to restrict the personal information we use about you where you have asked for it to be erased or where you have objected to our use of it.
